I’ve always found it interesting how we catch folks at certain times in their lives, assuming that this is a definitive statement of their being.
It is such a small glimpse into their spine and yet, we consider it a representative example of their entire body of work.
We should strive to better understand growth
…the necessary turmoil that is inevitable growth.

I think where we miss the mark, on relationships, friendships and the like, is at the advent of fear in initial interaction. We constantly guard ourselves during first impressions, as if the meaningful folks won’t see through the façade. Allowing past disappointment to rob us of our present. We should bleed more out of the gate. Tell more Truths. Open more wounds. Lean into more conversations with an open mind and a humble heart. Maybe then we will build something worth writing about.

Do not hide your tears.
They are part of what makes strength worthy of a sledge hammer.
The ability to crumble and build all in the swift swinging balance of silence.

There are points at which, as an artist, activist, white male - you become addicted to this notion of being labeled an anomaly of good. The challenging of your privilege actually affords you more of it. The moment I overcame this addiction, my views changed very little, but my intent, the agenda with which I approached voice, shifted mountain tops.

Jon Stewart on the ‘you can’t legislate against evil’ argument

“Holy Sh*t, thank God for Chris Hayes because I’m not good at math. I’m so stupid I still think 54 votes is more than 46. I’m a fk’n idiot. But I’m pretty sure 1million [gun related deaths since 1980] is more then 3,400 [terror related deaths since 1970]. And yet, to battle the evil of Terror: we started two wars, tortured people, reorganized almost the entire Federal Government, disallowed the air trafficking of shampoo and conditioner, and okayed the robot sky killing of American citizens if warranted by ‘someone’. Because 1 American life lost to Terror is one too many, which I agree with. But it seems to me, we will move Heaven and Earth to do whatever it takes to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of foreigners who might kill our citizens because apparently, we think, killing our citizens is our job” - Jon Stewart

While I don’t particularly care for the apathy with which this was written, I’ve been saying this for awhile now.
Creativity in tech will be transformed by folks with gifts, especially those gifts we deem “disabilities”.

For the majority of Americans, it is hard to imagine that there are a large number of folks, our brothers and sisters, that live with this type of fear on a daily basis. That the uncertainty with which we left our homes today on our way to Starbucks is the same tightness-of-chest felt by a young boy trying to make it to school everyday outside of our sanctuary of The United States. That realization may be the empathy with which we navigate 2013. Maybe, we take it a bit slower, breathe a bit more, pray a little longer, smile more often, give thanks on a more frequent basis, sympathize with a tad more chest, and love with more soul in the coming months.  Maybe, we appreciate one another a bit more. Maybe, the light here is that we are forced to take an extensive look at how much we mean to one another and the power that we possess to start loving each other perfectly in the weeks ahead.
